The basic differences
between saltwater pearls, freshwater pearls and cultured pearls.
Saltwater Pearls:
- They have a high
degree of iridescence and luster.
- Color varies from
white through pale shades of pink, yellow, blue and green to brown
or the dark gray that is the color of the black pearl.
Freshwater Pearls:
- These usually lack
a significant degree of iridescence.
Cultured Pearls:
- The thickness of
the Nacre disposition over the MOTHER-OF-PEARL bead is 1/6th -
1/10th of the diameter of the bead.
- These are always
lighter in weight. A pearl of 5mm in diameter will weigh about 3.6
grains.
